Irish-Copeland Practical Art
Welcome to the world of Irish-Copeland
Irish-Copeland Practical Art was founded in 2003 by Eamon Bishop as a resource for persons looking for traditional Russian-Orthodox, Byzantine and Greek Icons.
All of my works are written in the traditional manner on gesso boards or plaster panels. I use egg-tempera as my medium, which is a mixture of egg yolk, wine and ground mineral or earth pigments. Examples of Icons from the past have survived for hundreds of years with minimal loss of color or detail using these methods. Gilding (the application of gold to details upon the Icon) is available in the traditional 24 carat gold leaf upon a bole surface or in the more reasonably priced copper-based gold leaf.
I can write Icons in any number of subjects ranging from images of the Saints, the Theotokos (the Virgin Mary), Christ our Savior or scenes of Holy tradition.
Icons make a for a beautiful and spiritual spot within the home, and are also ideal for churches and other places of worship. Icons are timeless and meaningful gifts for weddings, baptisms, confirmations and other life events. The giver can select a completed Icon in the specific topic suitable for their needs, or I can provide gift certificates that cover a specific size (and necessary shipping costs) that allow the receiver to choose their own subject matter.
It is my goal to provide service at a fair price, while at the same time creating unique works that will stand the test of time.
Some examples of my works are available on the following pages, and references are available from prior clients.
